Umihara Kawase Shun Time Attack Competition Thread
« on: March 12, 2015, 02:34:28 PM »
EDIT, 21st November, 2015: With the PC version having official online rankings, the site rankings are no longer necessary and have been closed.  Feel free to use this thread for general time attack discussion.

Original post:

As of about two hours ago, the Umihara Kawase Shun time attack section is live at http://kawasefan.net/time-attack/umihara-kawase-shun-second-edition
I figured this one may get more submissions than the Umihara Kawase time attack due to practice mode, so I've taken a bit of time to put it up.  Although the address refers to ~Second Edition~ you're free to play the original Shun if you want, just ignore the SE-specific stuff.

Just like the Umihara Kawase time attack, there are rankings for each field/door, as well as for each ending.  Submit your best times from Shun, ~Second Edition~ or from the Shun SE Route mode in Kanzenban.  Kanzenban-specific DS New Route fields/doors will get their own game section which I will put up next week.  Umihara Kawase Portable times will not be accepted.

I have also put in a link to the Japanese rankings at http://eventer.jp/kawase/#se

So go ahead, submit your times and of course you can use this thread for rankings discussion and competition.

Would anyone be interested in a time attack challenge?  I should've posted one for Shun a long time ago - back when this site had a rankings section - but here it is, anyway.  Feel free to compete using the PlayStation or DS versions, though I'd recommend the PC version because of its online rankings.

Field 54 - How fast can you defeat the pufferfish?  I managed 2:50.30.  The best time on the PC rankings is akira's 2:54.35.  The best time on the DS rankings is akira's 2:54.71.

PC version rankings can be viewed at http://gori.sh/KawaseSteamViewer/

Feel free to suggest your own time attack challenges, too!

I thought I'd suggest a non-boss field in case that interests anyone.  How fast can you clear field 20?  I currently hold sixth place on the PC version rankings with 4:51.20.  The best time on the PC version belongs to cos with 4:52.93, and the best time on the DS rankings is akira's 4:53.11.

Previously I was flying from the upper left, but I challenged about the fastest route for about an hour, 51. 76 came out.

Ahhh I give up, those damn fish man. 51.46 using the upper left route. Gotta admit this is a really fun field to speedrun though.

Edit: Managed to get 52.03 in the end, if you shoot the lure top-right (so you hit the smallest block) before the first fish you can avoid it pretty easily.

Nice!  I'm not getting to either of those times, I think I've hit my limit.

Thanks to the video gori.sh posted, I made some adjustments and improved my time to 52.11.  Still well behind the two of you but that'll do for me.

I have a challenge for a DS/PC version field - field 26.  I still need to improve my time, but I'd like to see how well the two of you can do -- plus anyone else who wants to join in!

My best time is 4:42.60, which is sixth on the PC rankings.  I got that time going through the field the normal way.  I've been trying to swing up the left side of the middle mostly-ice platform to save some time, but the edge is always just out of reach.

akira has the best time on the PC rankings (4:53.10) and the DS rankings (4:53.25).

I get 4:50.35, today.
Finally, I swing up from the right and enter the door directly by jumping.

I see you've improved your time to 4:52.85.  Nice!

I've improved mine to 4:46.76.  There are definitely some parts I can still improve, but it's much better than my previous time.

I've got another challenge for a DS/PC version field: Field 17.  I'm currently equal fifth on the PC rankings with 4:50.13.  I think I could still make a small improvement to this, but I don't think I'm making it to 4:51.  The top time belongs to siosatou, with 4:54.28.

I have one more challenge if anyone's interested: Field 29, left exit (to field 39).  My best time is 4:45.58, which is third on the PC rankings.  akira has the best time on the PC rankings (4:50.45) as well as the DS rankings (4:50.86).

Thereby I give up on F29 (not so much the right door though), the left door is pretty damn difficult not gonna lie.

One question, I think gori.sh could help me with this but when it comes to F35 is there anything to keep in mind when trying to get to the yellow platform above without grabbing? I've managed to do so twice but it was nothing more than a stroke of luck. (I was so surprised to get there without grabbing the fish killed me afterwards anyway)

This is the platform I'm talking about

It's very hard. I climb it up, too. :'(
https://youtu.be/dnsKLyqZwFY
49.40 of Mr. akira seems to climb it up, too. (It is 49.78 in the best time of Mr. akira.)

The following becomes the aim to break off an escalade.
・Build a beginning as low as possible.
・Build next over the right as much as possible.
・Work by weight movement to the right after getting nervous perpendicularly.

But one really difficult afterwards. Because speed appears, coping of the fish is difficult.

"The last lure brakes" were very effective to update thyme.

Ah, I really hoped there was some easy way for swinging straight on the platform. So far got measly 48.78 which was mostly thanks to the break you mentioned.
