Edit: This is now a general Sayonara video thread, rather than a thread just about my videos.

---

It's not easy to record a 3DS screen (without having a capture card put in, anyway) and I didn't really have an ideal setup for recording, but I think it could've gone a lot worse.

I'm not sure how your budget looks, but there ARE capture cards for the 3DS, if that interests you.

KawaseFan

I wouldn't mind paying for a capture card, but the issue is that shipping my 3DS around the world to get it installed is something I'm not entirely sure I'm comfortable with, and there's no way I'd be able to install it myself.

I did find two sites, 3dscapture.com and 3dsvideocapture.com.  It's about as expensive either way, looks like the main difference is where I'd be sending it to.

I'll have a think about it.

Nicole

I don't know much about either, but just from the look of the sites I'd be leaning towards the first option. The second one just seems a little too... flashy, I guess? Not really sure how to describe it, the first one just seems more upfront about limitations and things, I guess.

KawaseFan

Yeah, also the first one's forum is more active, so more possible support if there are any problems.  Definitely going with that one if I decide to do it.

I've decided against it for now and I've put two more videos on YouTube using my current recording setup.  The blur at the start of the videos as the camera focuses is bugging me, but I'm going to get a better camera soon which will hopefully help with that.

EDIT: Got a better camera.  It picks up the noise from my PC really well.

The video section of the site has been live for a couple of days, although right now the only videos I have up are a few of my Sayonara time attack videos.  The presentation of the video section is very basic, but it gets the job done.  The only big problem is that I forgot to make the video fit on phone screens!  I'll fix that tomorrow.

More time attack videos coming as I improve my times, and walkthrough and backpack location videos coming soon.

YouTube, I appreciate that you're recommending one of my videos, but you're recommending it to me.

Also just made this a general thread for Sayonara videos rather than just for mine.

KawaseFan

Thanks!

Soon I'll have to practise recording the Vita screen to make sure I'm ready when Chirari is released.

KawaseFan

I did a walkthrough video for stage 33 last night - it's a bit rough at parts, but I kind of had to stop caring about getting every little thing perfect or it'd take all year.  Anyway, while I was doing it, I had a horrifying thought, given that Chirari will have changed enemy placement, as well as enemies that weren't originally in Sayonara.

What if Chirari's version of stage 33 has squid everywhere?

Please, please no.

mobilesworking

Might I request a video for Stage 52 in Chirari? That backpack is giving me fits! ^_^

KawaseFan

52 backpack.  You have to be pretty quick to get it!

mobilesworking

Someday I'll soar through the air with such grace that I will land upon that ledge and clutch the backpack to me. Until then, it's into the spikes and into the drink.

This is actually lots easier if you latch onto the underside of the moving platform indicated in the attached.

To start with, swing up and stand on left to get the platform to drop down (keep your lure attached to the underside through all this), and then swing back around to the right side to pick up the satchel.

(I guess I should get a HDMI capture card sorted and do this properly.)

Thanks to the convenience of Nvidia's Shadowplay, I've been recording the replays of my runs and uploading them to Youtube. As mentioned in the introduction, I am new to the game series and I've been choosing to complete stages first and get into in-game top 20 rankings if possible without looking up any vids for help.

I still haven't looked up any vids for help at the moment because I want to 100% the game first before I try to get any better times than what I have done.

So anyway, I've been recording almost every stage that I have done. (This is the steam version by the way.)

Here's a link to the Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCv1COOvNiQFxIbG5w7Epoyw

Since there's a lot of vids there I'll just put up here some ones that I like or have "bled" to get the attempts done, I mention the attempts done in the video description.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbCQRHz964k - Stage 24 to 55, Attempts failed: 206
I could say that after that stage I ended up getting better at the game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQGX6FEkGEk - Stage 58, Attempts failed: 25
I liked how it finished in the end.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARJ10NzH0GQ - Stage 35, Attempts failed: 283
I know it's not the fastest time but, it was a method I wanted to pull off without looking at how other people did it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PRsRzhAaSE - Stage 47, Attempts failed: 10
Obviously love swinging around.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcThKAEh65M - Stage 19, Attempts failed: 114
Again, not the fastest time but, I wanted to be able to pull it off.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dooDpLA5bgk - Stage 53, Attempts failed: 1
I like that it didn't take me long to figure out how to get this done.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UMJG093Ag0 - Stage 56, Attempts failed: 13
What I felt was one of the hard stages and I still have yet to finish those other hard stages to finish like stage 33...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUveX1j2JCY - Stage 20, Attempts failed: 7
Happy about this one because I got 4th place in the in-game rankings for this stage which is probably the highest ranking for any I've done so far. (Usually averaged around 10th place for highest rank.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQulfbnlkbY - Stage 59, Attempts Cleared: 1, Attempts Failed: 131
It wasn't until after 90 attempts that I tried this method even though I could get through the normal path.
Finally got 4 endings out of 5, so I just gotta beat stage 33 now.

Edit: Finally got the 5th ending. Now it seems I got 5 stages, 10 doors and 10 backpacks left to find.

I can see now why there is a display time option. I lose track of the time when I'm playing and hours just pass by.

I was doing stage 32 getting to door 42 and I couldn't use the trampoline. It wouldn't work for me, so I spend hours of my time trying to finish the stage without using the trampoline.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omBKBRJfNdM here is my best attempt at it, but failing in the end. (around 30 seconds long) I'm showing it so you can see why this one works better compared to my completed attempt.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KG2hRbjXAI here is the completed attempt, just didn't get to do it as well as the other. (1:13"15)

This is my fastest time. You will receive an ice floor of the door with the speed riding, jumping, and barely

I did try the ice floor but, only once or twice. Since I thought there wasn't enough elevation to reach the other side hence why I went with a pendulum swing.

I just finished all 60 stages without looking at how they were done by other people, so maybe now I'll look at how the faster times are made for most stages.

For example I did the shortcut for stage 54 for the first clear because I couldn't complete it normally - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5icND7qVZA but, seeing that my 15 seconds is almost 4 times longer than the top ranking in-game made me think how the hell do you do that that fast?

F54 upload by kawasefan.
I also go the same route.

top3 those little audience it seems. To zero-gravity jumps in the starting position, and finally bounces around in the second.

That is insanely quick.

I just find the F54 time-attack method easier than clearing it the normal way.  For the record, the video I put up for F54 the normal way is the only time I've been able to clear it that way.

Made an account here just to show how bad I am.

I've never experienced a better example of "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YY_lykLl4YE

You can see how I couldn't get my momentum going correctly and I hesitated a lot. Then when it came time for a twitch reaction, I got super lucky in so many spots (the upper-right blocks, not hitting the snail on the way up). The time stop was an accident from panicking and I felt my heart skip a beat when I saw it. At the end I was so scared I completely contracted my line but failed to notice how that doesn't keep me from swinging. If it went any better, I bet I would have been done in by that last snail.

So close!  F33 is definitely one of the hardest stages in the game, though, along with F46 and F54.  Hope you've cleared it since then!

NewWaveBossaNova

Yeah, I did get it eventually. It at least made for a good moment to share.

I'm not done with the game yet but the most time-consuming things I've come across were that, Stage 29 backpacks (ended up taking Door 57 once I finally got both instead of risking Door 19), and Stage 24 left backpack. Door 55 is such BS coming in from the left side.

Okay, I'm done. Done for now I think. I have a playlist here with every stage done for every door and listing in each description for what ranking I came in-game online. (It was mostly 12th or lower so it doesn't matter.)
Note: the playlist also comes with the "Understanding the Traversal Mechanics of Sayonara Umihara Kawase" in the first video played, so you'd have to skip that for the stages.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlia8-4etXyj1IYCN7OISVf63YJuZQi3w

I played for 50+ hours hence why I couldn't be bothered doing over some of the stages I only did once to get a better time so only some of those videos are decent attempts.

My only highest rankings I could find were 7th place for Stage 33

https://youtu.be/s3BqtGj1h5w

and 5th place for Stage 29 to Stage 19

I jumped on the bandwagon and did a meme video, I don't think it would have helped much. (Plus, I think it relies on familiarity with not just the meme but with the scene itself, so with this game being so niche there wouldn't be much familiarity to have a chuckle.)
It's also possible I did it too long when they are usually shorter.
