Title: Umihara Kawase series coming back to steam
Post by: sol-alpha on January 26, 2016, 01:35:00 AM
Wasn't sure where to put this but, on one of the other sites I browse http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1175480 (http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1175480) it is mentioned that the publisher Degica is bringing back the umihara kawase games to steam as reported on http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2016/01/25/umihara-kuwase-just-wont-stay-dead-coming-back-to-steam-from-degica/189352/ (http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2016/01/25/umihara-kuwase-just-wont-stay-dead-coming-back-to-steam-from-degica/189352/).
Quote from: James Cunningham of Hardcoregamer...Degica is riding to the rescue and putting it back on Steam effective January 28.

Now I can actually get Umihara Kawase Shun this time around.

Sigh... well this is embarrassing. I really should have checked if that article had any sources to backup what that guy was saying. Someone mentioned in the comments that the guy who wrote the article http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2016/01/25/umihara-kuwase-just-wont-stay-dead-coming-back-to-steam-from-degica/189352/ (http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2016/01/25/umihara-kuwase-just-wont-stay-dead-coming-back-to-steam-from-degica/189352/) posted no sources for where Degica claims they were re-releasing the games on the 28th of January and, even looking at Degigames twitter account https://twitter.com/DegiGames (https://twitter.com/DegiGames) they've made no mention that they were bringing the umihara kawase games to steam in the last couple of weeks.

In case no one knows what is happening, the games still haven't popped back up on steam and it's past January 28th.

Hahaha, seriously what is going on?

http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2016/01/29/umihara-kawase-return-to-steam-delayed-still-happening/190094/ (http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2016/01/29/umihara-kawase-return-to-steam-delayed-still-happening/190094/) in this new article from the same site,
Quote from: Steve Hannley of hardcoregamer.comWe reached out to a Degica representative who told Hardcore Gamer that "due to unexpected delays Umihara missed our intended launch date, however, rest assured that these delays are not permanent and the launch of this beloved game will be soon."
I look carefully and there is no source they can provide that shows that Degica stated this, again I check Degigames twitter, facebook and blog on their website and there was nothing.

Also I end up looking around at other sites to see if they reported this or the initial announcement and hence
http://www.siliconera.com/2016/01/26/umihara-kawase-returns-steam-january-28th/ (http://www.siliconera.com/2016/01/26/umihara-kawase-returns-steam-january-28th/) this article stated the same thing about Umihara Kawase returning to steam on the 28th and even had a quote from Degica
Quote from: Chris Priestman of siliconera.com"We believe it is important to support the digital ownership rights of players to the fullest reasonable extent," reads the announcement.
However, they didn't even provide a source saying Degica stated that.

I'm calling it now, this is all a load of crap. I didn't find the more "mainstream gaming" sites reporting about the initial announcement when typing "degica umihara kawase" into google. There are no sources for these claims and quotes, I'm pretty sure Degica didn't pay these sites to exclusively give the news when looking at Degigames twitter/facebook/site they always try to make sure their fanbase knows what games are coming because they are so niche. This has all ended up being a torrent of misinformation being spread around.

Apparently Degica have talked to Destructoid (http://www.destructoid.com/umihara-kawase-will-return-to-steam-soon-337908.phtml) too, so I imagine it's pretty much what they're saying - it's going to happen but they've just got some bullshit licensing hoops they're having to jump through.

They're back!

The store page links are obviously the same as they were before, but I'll repost them here anyway.

Well then, I admit to being wrong for being sceptical of the people who posted these articles. It's just annoying that there was no source to backup these claims when the games didn't reappear the first time around.
It felt like the equivalent of when sites post "rumours" that come from their "sources" which they don't have to prove it but, even if it turns out to not be true they still got the clicks for the article.

Anyway, now I'll be able to get Umihara Kawase Shun although that will have to wait for a bit because I have already spent money pre-ordering other games that I wanted.

It's understandable that you'd question it when the original date passes without a release and without any comment from Degica other than what was reported in those articles, although it makes sense that they'd have wanted to limit what they said until they were absolutely ready to release the games.  Anyway, since you posted this thread and I've added the re-release information to the various game info pages on the site, I've credited you as having contributed on those pages.

Heh, well that's neat. Thanks

All three games have been updated on Steam.  Hopefully there are fixes for issues people have had, but from a quick play of Sayonara, it seems the main point was to remove Agatsuma Entertainment from the start-up and main menu.  If anyone notices any other differences, please let us know.

To celebrate the Steam release of another Studio Saizensen title, Code of Princess, the Umihara Kawase games are 30% off until April 25, a good opportunity for anyone who hasn't got them to pick them up.

In the announcements posted on Steam about the sale, they've also linked to Studio Saizensen's new English-language site at http://saizensen.degicagames.com/

I tried tweeting about it. (I have a twitter account because it was for miitomo)
It would have helped if degica tweeted about the sale so I could retweet it.
I have gone in-depth on twitter just for Sayonara Umihara Kawase so people could understand the learninng curve and showed the steam trailer which does a good job showing the kind of stuff you can do. (I also have a steam review of it but I haven't bothered posting that.)

Another sale has started again on steam. This time the whole trilogy is 50% off! all titles, so the trilogy is US$15 only for this weekend.

The anime weekend sale has ended. I hope these figures don't decrease but according to steamspy http://steamspy.com/dev/Studio+Saizensen
Sayonara Umihara Kawase went from ~5000 units to ~7200 (owners). The reason is that I saw Code of Princess at ~5000 units and went down to ~4715.
Before the sale, Code of princess was 1st but is now 3rd in that link for by owners.

Not sure that this is the best place to post, but I don't really want to create a new thread.  The Umihara Kawase games, among many other Degica-published games, are on sale on the Humble Store.  Umihara Kawase and Shun are 60% off, while Sayonara and the trilogy package are 50% off.  The Shun page says they're out of Steam keys right now, though...

The sale ends on August 29th at 17:00 UTC.

Also, Sayonara's VR mode now also supports Oculus Rift.

The Studio Saizensen Bundle (http://store.steampowered.com/bundle/1423/) is now available on Steam.  The bundle contains the Umihara Kawase games as well as Blade Arcus from Shining: Battle Arena, Code of Princess and the Code of Princess OST.  The bundle offers a 20% discount compared to buying the items individually.
